Electrical Acceptance Test Engineer

The Electrical Acceptance Test Engineer will be responsible for conducting tests on electrical equipment and distribution systems and will lead the diagnosis cause of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment and performs preventative and corrective maintenance.

The work assignment will be at a remote DOD test facility in the South-Central California desert.

This is contingent on the award of the contract.

Key responsibilities:

  • Participate in pre-construction meetings on projects with highly sophisticated technical requirements or critical completion dates
  • Monitor and provide detailed surveillance of construction contract submittals and routinely provide on-site inspection of mechanical equipment and systems
  • Recommend corrective/preventative measures as appropriate, and prepare sketches or change order drawings, cost estimates and specifications as necessary related to systems testing and acceptance
  • Develop recommendations, changing approach or methodology to meet or improve expected results or program objectives
  • Perform Quality Assurance reviews of drawings, specifications, calculations, cost estimates as related to electrical systems acceptance
  • Subject Matter Expert and technical specialist in the area of electrical equipment/systems acceptance testing
  • Identify risks associated with design and construction and develop mitigation strategies or alternatives
  • Review submittals for completeness, functionality, sound engineering practice and compliance with the government criteria, and other applicable codes and standards
  • Investigate project sites, as required, to collect all pertinent data as it related to assigned duties
  • Monitor the status of construction projects for quality and timeliness of construction on contracts that involve technically complex electrical system aspects
  • Perform technical administration of acceptance and commissioning programs, including coordination efforts with other engineers and architects involved in multi-discipline projects
  • Prepare and submit correspondence, reports, oral presentations on mechanical acceptance and testing
  • Provides technical responses to electrical systems testing and commissioning Requests for Information (RFIs)\
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

  • Professional Engineer in the discipline of Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years of actual design experience with at least 3 years on NAVFAC or ACOE projects, preferred
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of specialized experience in acceptance testing of electrical equipment and electrical distribution systems on commercial/industrial type facilities contracts valued in excess of $10 million
  • Analyses and calculations in the preparation and review of final detailed working drawings, comparative cost analysis, Request for Proposals (RFPs), and project specifications for a wide variety of facility types for multi-discipline and/or electrical engineering projects
  • Performance of Quality Control and Quality Assurance and reviews of drawings, specifications, calculations, cost estimates, and studies prepared by other engineers
  • Performed quality control and quality assurance and reviews of drawings, specifications, calculations, cost estimates and studies
  • Knowledge of DOD and Navy guide specifications, criteria and policy, industry codes and standards, and standard practices as related to electrical engineering design including the NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), IEEE C2 National Electrical Safety Code), and the International Building Code
  • Knowledge of local, state, federal, and foreign country laws, codes, and other statutory requirements affecting mechanical engineering design throughout the area of responsibility
  • Must be certified as a commissioning professional by the Associated Air Balance Council (AABC) Commissioning Group (ACG), the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the Commissioning Process Management Process Management Professional (CPMP), the Building Commissioning Association (BCA), the National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB), or the University of Wisconsin - Madison (UWM)
  • Able to complete an SF-85-P, Questionnaire for Public Trust Positions necessary for base/building access requirements
  • Able to obtain secret clearance for security access
  • Must be a US citizen and hold valid, current drivers’ license
  • Experienced with the use of Autodesk software, Microsoft Office products, mechanical engineering design and analysis software, including load analysis and energy modeling software, and other applicable DoD computer systems and software
