The Project Engineer is responsible for assisting the contractors in the completion of daily construction activities and ensure compliance with the project schedule and contract requirements.

Primarily, the work of performance will be in Honolulu District (POH), but occasionally may include other Pacific Region locations such as Japan, Korea, Alaska, American Samoa, Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, Republic of Palau, Federated States of Micronesia, and Republic of the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean Division (POD) area.

This position is contingent to the award of the contract. The contract duration will be (3) year base period with two (2) 1-year option periods.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist in the completion, documentation and inspection of construction work
  • Monitor the means and methods of the contractor, providing oversight and direction to ensure compliance with contractual, safety and quality requirements
  • Review contractor submittals for compliance and provide approval and/or guidance to the government
  • Maintain, update and assures the accuracy of inspection records, project documentation and project files
  • Perform field inspections to evaluate the work performed, materials used and quality of workmanship
  • Ensure compliance with the design, specifications, standards and applicable codes and regulations
  • Identify and track deficiencies and deviations from plans; work with construction team to mitigate and solve these deficiencies and deviations
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or any engineering discipline
  • 4 years of experience in construction management including inspection and contractor oversight activities associated with facilities (i.e., buildings, structures, equipment, systems, etc.)
  • Ability to manage and coordinate the completion of construction work
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents
  • Current OSHA 30-hour training certificate desired
  • Proficient in Primavera scheduling software
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office suites
  • Strong English writing and spoken communications skills
  • Must lawfully reside in the United States and be eligible for employment (Planate does not sponsor visas or work permits)
