The Installation Environmental Technician will be responsible for monitoring and providing recommendations in enforcing environmental requirements. The position will also handle maintenance and monitoring of environmental engineering and management programs based on current environmental engineering practices and regulations.           

The work of assignment will be in Naval Support Facility (NSF) Redzikowo, Poland.

This position is contingent to the award of the contract. The contract duration will be (1) year base period with four (4) option periods.

Key responsibilities:

  • Coordinating with the Public Works Department staff for environmental engineering, compliance and management issues affecting the installation
  • Prepare periodic environmental reports and recommends the best method for resolving any environmental findings
  • Ensure closure of all findings in a timely manner; and maintenance of records
  • Ensures that the installation is in compliance with the environmental engineering and management requirements
  • Validate environmental processes and systems
  • Responsible for submitting a Commander’s Critical Information Request (CCIR)
  • Review the technical and regulatory adequacy of all environmental compliance programs at the installation
  • Establish and maintain compliance for air emissions, drinking water, wastewater, hazardous material management, hazardous waste management, solid waste management, medical waste management, petroleum, oil, lubricants, pesticides, historic & cultural resources, natural resources & endangered species, polychlorinated biphenyls, asbestos, lead-based paint, spill prevention and response planning, and underground storage tanks
  • Execute and analyze results of installation inspection and environmental compliance audits
  • Perform tenant environmental sampling and testing
  • Conduct technical environmental performance and prepare responses to technical requests for information on environmental programs
  • Prepare technical documentation to support funding requests, address budget shortfalls and monitor spending
  • Provide recommendations to establish Environmental Management System (EMS) procedures
  • Submit weekly project status report and attend any project meetings
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

  • Bachelor‘s degree in an environmental science or environmental engineering-related field or a non-environmental related field with 3 years of operation experience in handling environmental engineering programs
  • Familiar with and able to write a Commander’s Critical Information Requirement (CCIR)
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of environmental project management and regulatory processes
  • Highly knowledgeable in environmental sciences and engineering to be able to assess and correlate environmental data, verify results, evaluate and discuss technical aspects of work with scientists, engineers, and other environmental experts
  • Knowledge of environmental engineering principles, concepts, and methods of environmental compliance programs, and skilled in applying this knowledge in performing a variety of duties involving the evaluation, management, coordination, monitoring, and oversight environmental compliance programs, projects, or activities
  • Able to speak and write fluently in both English and Polish in order to prepare and conduct briefings, training programs, write progress reports and present recommendations
  • Computer literate
